At dawn’s first break, the sepulchral presence of the Grand Princess cruise ship against Oakland’s cool bay water is almost haunting. I sip my coffee in silence as the morning light begins to spill through our apartment window to the tune of Deepak Chopra’s “Daily Breath”. The twinkling city skyline taunts me with adventure, but here I sit. And there she rests in pearly might at this crippling intersection of survival and luxury.

Monday will mark day fifteen of the official Shelter-In Place order in California and I’m actually finding the personal act of isolation to be extremely rewarding. Of course, it’s difficult to settle-in when you know there is a global pandemic unfolding outside. Through my rose-colored glasses (i.e. childless and thankfully, still employed) the extra space to be found in each day is brimming with hermetic opportunity. Nevertheless, my significant other finally transitioned to working from home last night, and the intense banging sound resulting from his typing is already proving to be a lesson in patience.

This is the first day (Ever maybe? It’s been years at least.) that I woke up with no plans to leave for the day and got ready, tidied the bed, stretched, meditated, made coffee, breakfast, and sat
